Time to Get Organised - How Seashore No4 can help.

As 2019 begins and we consider our lives with new eyes and resolutions, most of us will consider revisiting the yearly tradition of Spring cleaning. With Christmas passed, we will usually find ourselves with more stuff in our lives than we know how to deal with, something that author Marie Kondo is tackling head on in her Netflix program, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. She believes she has a pretty foolproof plan to deal with mess and clutter and, having watched her stuff, I'm inclined to agree. She deals with things in five steps:1. Clothing2. Books3. Papers4. Miscellaneous5. MementosShe suggests being very mindful about your choices as you go through them, once you have laid everything of the section you're...

Give your Patio a Coastal Makeover.

It's easy to neglect your outside living areas, especially when they are not being used much in the colder seasons. It doesn't take a lot of effort, however to improve your outdoor living space during warm weather so that it almost becomes another room for you and your family to use. Here are some tips on how to spruce up your backyard! 1. Declutter I love a good declutter, but finding the motivation for it is the worst. Our beautiful, funny, loving and inspirational son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 6, now in his teens he is a polite,...

Giving Nature a Helping Hand.

We all know how important pollinators are for our crops and plants, so it's good to give these insects a helping hand in your garden by providing them with a bug house.  Here are some tips on how to attract insects and butterflies to your bug house.  1. Position the bug house in a shaded, damp area that is sheltered from the prevailing wind. Most bugs will prefer this, but if it's bees or butterflies that you would like to attract they prefer a sunnier spot to help them in the cooler days of the season.  2. You will find that solitary bees are attracted to the holes drilled into wood or hollowed out canes as they offer the...

A beautiful Way to Attract Birds to Your Garden.

Adding a small birdhouse to your garden is a great way to attract wild birds.  I must confess, I have never had much success attracting birds to nest in my garden, but I do have three cats, so maybe that has been too much of a deterrent for the birds! Where to place a nesting box is important if you want to have regular visitors, year after year. The RSPB recommend that unless there are trees or buildings which shade the box during the day, face the box between north and east, thus avoiding strong sunlight and the wettest winds.  Make sure that the birds have a clear flight path to the nest without any clutter directly in front of...
